I am so thrilled to have won an Award of Excellence (including cash prize!) in the NJ Art Association show "Will You Look at That" currently on display at Overlook Hospital in Summit, NJ.  The photo of Mesa Arch in Canyonlands National Park, here printed on 12x36 high definition aluminum, has been a long-time favorite, but this is the first big award it received.  The photo was the result of many hours of work: first, I had to awake at 3:30 AM in Moab Utah, drive an hour to Canyondlands, hike to the arch, and then wait for the sunrise.  Since it is impossible to get enough distance from the arch to show the whole formation, the image had to be made in multiple frames to be later stitched together.  Also, since the lighting contrast was so great at sunrise, I had to do exposure bracketing to capture the entire dynamic range.  Finally, home at my digital darkroom, it took several hours to make the HDR panorama...The file is huge but that is a good thing because I can print it BIG.  So far, the largest print is 24x72 and looks great!
